Ricky Gervais’s deadpan comedy has prompted laughs around the world. His original series, “The Office,” has been turned into a hugely successful NBC hit. He has held the leading role in a number of Hollywood films and has been awarded three Golden Globe awards, seven British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards and one Screen Actors Guild Award nomination.
This week another feather was added to his already crowded cap when the young Prince William requested his autograph after a performance at London’s Hammersmith Apollo.
While mingling with Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin, Gervais was approached by the Prince and asked to sign a bear mat.
What is really shocking, is the Prince’s intentions for the coaster. He plans to give it to his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. The queen is apparently a huge fan.
Always the funnyman, Gervais posted this comment on his blog:
“At the after-show [Prince William] got me to sign a beer mat for [the Queen]. ‘To Liz II, Cheers! Ricky Gervais’ (true). I will be checking eBay all week in case she is making money off me. I can’t help but think that her signing a beer mat to me would be worth slightly more.”
